Crocodile enjoys the waves in Matara

It is a rare sight to witness a crocodile in the seas. But in the coast off Matara a crocodile was seen enjoying the waves. But he proved to be alone as there was no one willing to keep this monster-swimmer company.

However, a crocodile was found in close proximity to the Matara police barracks located down Beach Road.

A crocodile sunbathes on a river bank in the Bundala nature reserve in the southern district of Hambantota on February 22, 2011. The Bundala National Park, some 250 kms southwest of Colombo, is a main habitat for water birds and elephants

According to our correspondent in the area, this crocodile had ventured into the sea from the Nilwala River.

He added that the crocodile was discovered opposite the police barracks on Tuesday morning.

Wildlife officials took steps to capture the beast and release it into the river.
